twin/quad exhaust tips

Post by IIRXES » Sat May 16, 2020 12:44 pm

I am currently talking to a number of suppliers regarding twin exhaust tips.
I have looked in all the usual places, alibaba, aliexpress, ebay etc and I haven't found anything that would be a simple clamp fitting. Most of the designs are 250mm long which is almost 50mm too long based on my XES so would require the length shortening which would remove the clamping portion which would then require welding in situ. I, like lots of other folk like to have the option of being able to return my car to original specification.
I am looking at getting some custom ones made which will be 62mm ID inlet flange, 200mm long from flange to tip, and have twin 89mm outlets with a 4mm gap in between.
Rear valances that allow for twin/quad setups are readily available in a few different styles and generaly in carbon fibre or gloss black. As I have no other carbon fibre on the XES I have purchased a bloss black valance.
I just though I would put a message out there to see in anyone else would be interested.
the style of tip I am looking into is a gloss black.

So after working with a supplier I have received a pair of quad tips left and right.
I went for gloss black all over as these although probably more noticeable hlthan the original singles will still look stock and not quite in your face.

They are put together really well, pwedercoated and even. I'm really happy with them, just need to fit them, hopefully this p1ssing rain will give way to amazing sunshine again soon.
I maybe open to a group buy one I've tested the fit, I doubt they will make any difference to the sound but someone else who had quads fitted to standard boxes said there was a small but noticeable increase in volume.

Well in my opinion that's a job well done. Started about 12.30 finished and tidied by 3.30.
I took off the old valance using clean and carefully placed trim tools to lever the clips off, not hard but just took my time and only used as much force as needed. Then test fitted the new valance, and it's a perfect fit, then took it off again to save from getting damaged and to give more room to work Then measured the old tailpipes to make the incision with my Dremel with extension to cut off the old tailpipes. A quick test fit of the new twin tailpipes and it started to take shape.
I fitted the new valance once again and then attached the new tailpipes, making sure they were protruding the same and that they were both level before nipping the clamps up. Job Jobbed!
As mentioned by another FM it is slightly louder and a bit deeper so win win win!

Don’t know why but I just assumed the valance was a permanent part of the rear bumper.

I’ve got a diesel 180 so my valance is just plain plastic with the dual tip on the near side rear. Might get that painted or wrapped in a gloss black instead to make it a bit more polished.

Those quad tips look really good. I do kinda wish the diesel 180 had dual tips either side like yours had originally but it’s not something I’d pay to change on mine with it being a big modification

The valance in the XE is really one of the only things where I I think Jag let us down a bit. Compared with (say) the C Class, it was a bit understated and plain. They have tizzied it up a bit for the 2020.

Be careful with them though - I had to get a new valance for my F Type converting from centre to quad exhausts, the black part cost about $2K, the coloured finisher was about another $2K, and the little 2 inch bit of plastic covering the tow hook was about $200.

The quad tips look nice, I might try to sneak them on to our car while my wife isnt looking.
