Re: Pair of Aliath R-Sport rear skirt protectors for sale.

Post by RalphieM » Sun May 17, 2020 11:10 am

I purchased 2 sets just in case I buggered something up while fitting.
Turns out the job is actually very easy to do using the soapy water method.
Consequently I have 1 x R-Sport set of genuine Aliath protectors for sale, not a massive saving I know but every little helps.
£14.00 delivered complete with fitting instructions.

I will also post this in the FS section when I get around to it.

My attempt at fitting the Aliath protectors didn't go to plan and one of them eventually came off.
So I might take you up on your offer, assuming they're the clear ones. Shall I send you a PM?

Fitted the protectors today as I'd noticed the area had been taking a battering on both sides. They weren't a perfect fit, the bottom edge could do with levelling up by trimming, but I'll let them set for a few days and set how they look.

They trim really easily with a Stanley knife. Any slight overhang tends to come away, so I just ran the blade along.

As has been said, there is no need for a heat gun or a hair drier if you are just doing the rear sill in front of the rear wheels. The heat gun is for stretching over irregular shapes which does not apply to the rear sills.

Water with a touch of liquid soap (Fairy would do) and 20% IPO, spray it on to the clean, dry sill, and onto the back of the clear plastic film once you have peeled it off the backing paper. Soak both. It's not a perfect fit (slightly small) but line it up with the back and the top curve and you can slide it into place. Use a squeegee to remove the trapped water to the edges, along with any bubbles and job's done. One of mine has three little pimples at the back edge but you can't see them unless your head is right down next to them so I haven't bothered replacing it. I don't notice them now they are on. The little white chips I had already got, are, off course, visible through the plastic, but at least it won't get any worse, hopefully.

I'm liking how it looks so far, but I did have to use a hairdrier to get the bottom edge to stick into the concave sill. As long as the damage has now been arrested I'll be a happy chappy.
