What's the definition of a quality car? I think as far as the manufacturers are concerned it's to do with the finish, body and inside, rather than mechanical materials used. Most of the EX, apart from the body and engine, is made up of parts bought in from suppliers, so it depends really on the quality of their suppliers materials and as we all know, it's all down to cost. The leak on the diff is obviously down to a defective oil seal, which would have been a bought in item, in fact the whole diff unit, rear axle could have been.

There have been quite a few F-Types going in for rear diff seal replacements.
Plus others to have a new rear diff when the techies have over-tightened the bolts (apparently it's a critical torque setting) after seal replacements which lunches the diff.
But it hasn't been flagged up on here before.

If you go over to the F-Type forums and put "diff seal" in the search box a few threads come up about it.

Mine has started to leak oil as well <18000 miles. It’s going into garage next week.

Was it you that spotted it or the dealer? Dealer missed mine!

I spotted it. There were marks on the drive and so I crawled underneath to have a look. It was going for a service soon anyway which they’ve brought it forward a couple of weeks and they’ve ordered a new seal to fit then. Who knows whether it would have been checked and found at the service if I hadn’t pointed it out.

Probably because you haven't got 340/380 hp going through it.
This issue seems to affect the V6 hence the topic title.

Just saying they must be aware as they checked it.

Old thread resurrection :D

My XES had a diff pinion oil seal replaced by Jag when I bought the car about 18 months ago (it wasn't bought from the same or even a jag dealer).
Just had all the brake disks and pads replaced now I think the diff on the way out. When I first took the car from the indy garage it sounded like someone was running a fan on the back seat. I assumed it was just the new brakes. The noise was still there when I got home which is about 20 miles.
I called the garage and then took it back in, the guy claimed after a road test it was a knackered tyre, as my summers were being refurbished I still had my winters on, which are due to be replaced for next winer anyway, so this seemed plausible.
When I refitted my shiny new summers the noise was still there. I took it back and the garage and the guy agreed there was definitely a bearing type noise, although he like me didn't think it was a wheel bearing as the tone and pitch do not change when load is applied or removed by going around corners.
The noise starts around 20 mph and increases in pitch with road speed irregardless of what gear you are in and going into neural also makes no difference.
Very frustrating and potentially, expensive I think, I have a non jag autotrust warranty so hopefully they wll agree 23kis not classed as wear and tear!
