Just been down the garage to fill up. Slotted the filler cap in the holder but managed to knock it loose when I took the nozzle out. Instead of the cap just dangling from the retaining cord it fell on the floor and rolled under the car. The retainer is a piece of round cross section rubber like material and it is completely perished along its length, with half a dozen serious cracks. Oh what joy.
I have now replaced it with a length of 5A electrical wire which should be a bit more robust.
Mine is going the same way. There must be a better way to fix it. I actually thought of using a cable tie system but until it breaks I am leaving it alone.
My filler hatch has a handy "storage shelf" to locate the filler cap during filling so that it doesn't clatter on the side of the car.
Am I special or do all filler hatches have such genius 2nd function?

They all have that and it was where my cap was located when I clipped it with the petrol nozzle as I withdrew it. Nocked the cap out of the holder and the retainer broke.
Hope you dont mind but i've posted a link to the F Type forum, as they have the same filler cap and tether, nothing reported yet as to breakages, but, you never know....when.

A classic example of the wrong material for the job. Would probably be OK as long as you went out very 10 days and gently massaged the tether with olive oil. I might check the handbook in case you are supposed to do that

My replacement also arrived yesterday and I fitted it straight away. It is a 1-minute job, would have been less but it came in a very strong envelope that took me 45 seconds to get open
Yep, me too. And yes agree with the packaging but still at least it all arrived and a few minutes later was fully fitted.
Saves having to pick the damn filler cap up every time I dropped it, so a worthwhile investment!!!!
